IMAGICA HSR FILM RECORDER INSTALLED AT HOLLYWOOD INTERMEDIATE
Los Angeles-Based DI Facility Adopts IMAGER HSR Film Recorder for Film Projects
Los Angeles, CA (April 9, 2008)-IMAGICA Technologies Corp., the engineering solutions division company of IMAGICA Robot Holdings, Inc., announced today that post facility Hollywood Intermediate has purchased and installed the company's IMAGER HSR Film Recorder for use on independent film projects.
Hollywood Intermediate is a provider of digital intermediate film mastering services serving the worldwide motion picture industry. The facility has recorded nine projects on the IMAGER HSR Film Recorder to date, including "Rambo," "Waiting in Beijing" and "War, Inc." Upcoming projects include the forthcoming Jessica Simpson movie, "Major Movie Star," "Balls Out: The Gary Houseman Story" and "Alone in the Dark 2."
"At Hollywood Intermediate we typically work on 25-30 films a year," said Sarah Priestnall, Vice President of Operations for Hollywood Intermediate. "The IMAGER HSR Film Recorder provides an enormous advantage. With our other equipment it would take about 24 hours to film out one reel of negative. The HSR takes about three hours, which means we can film out an entire movie within 24 hours if we have to."
Only two days after installation of the IMAGER HSR Film Recorder, Hollywood Intermediate was able to complete its first project, "Rambo," on a very tight schedule. "On this type of project, where color grading and VFX changes are taking place right up to the last minute, having the HSR means that we can make deadlines because we can film out so quickly," Priestnall explained. "But it's not just about the speed and turnaround time, it's about the quality of the picture as well, and we're very happy with that."
The IMAGER HSR film recorder, built on pioneering imaging technology licensed from Eastman Kodak Company, delivers high speed and high quality for the final, typically time-crunched phase of DI: recording projects back to film. The system can record three frames per second in 2K resolution, up to six times faster than current laser film recorders operating at 2K.
The IMAGER HSR combines a newly developed optical engine with JVC's D-ILA LCOS imaging device and LED illumination to record motion picture data to intermediate film stock. Well suited for DI, VFX, and video transfer work, the IMAGER HSR supports several common file formats including Cineon / DPX, TIFF, SGI (RGB), and YUV. It also features optional support for HD (1920 x 1080) and 2k in Academy imaging modes.
